Practical guide · Morocco hospitality
How should a Moroccan hotel or riad decide on room rates and packages?
Start with comparable stay-date prices, then check booking pace and the contribution left after distribution fees and direct inclusion costs. Review the evidence with your team before publishing a rate or package. EdgeFlow Pricing supports this workflow for independent hotels, riads, guesthouses, boutique stays and hostels in Morocco; the property keeps control of the decision.

1. Compare the same stay, not just two displayed prices
Build a competitor set that serves similar guests. For each observed rate, record check-in and check-out dates, guests, room type, meals, cancellation and payment terms, mandatory charges, currency, sales channel and the time you observed it. Convert total stay prices to the same length before comparing them. A member-only or mobile-only rate is a different condition from an unrestricted public rate.
Example, using hypothetical prices for a two-night stay: Hotel A displays 900 MAD per night plus 160 MAD in mandatory stay charges, giving (900 × 2 + 160) ÷ 2 = 980 MAD per night. Hotel B displays 1,050 MAD per night including charges, breakfast and flexible cancellation. The displayed difference is 70 MAD per night after mandatory charges, but the offers still differ. Do not assign an invented value to breakfast or cancellation flexibility.
A rate shopper can organize these observations by stay date, room type and plan. Availability may change after capture, and a channel restriction can hide a room without proving the property is sold out.
2. Read booking pace beside ADR and RevPAR
Occupancy is rooms sold divided by rooms available. ADR is room revenue divided by rooms sold. RevPAR is room revenue divided by rooms available. These definitions follow the STR methodology. Use room revenue, not the full value of a package that includes transport or meals. Keep your treatment of out-of-service rooms and complimentary stays consistent.
For one hypothetical night with 20 available rooms, 12 rooms sold and 9,600 MAD of room revenue, occupancy is 60%, ADR is 800 MAD and RevPAR is 480 MAD. The cross-check is 800 × 60% = 480. These figures illustrate the calculation; they are not Moroccan market benchmarks.
Booking pace compares the on-the-books position at the same lead time before a stay. If a date has 12 rooms booked at 30 days before arrival versus 10 at the comparable prior snapshot, it is ahead by two rooms or 10 occupancy points for a 20-room property. Confirm the reference period, capacity, cancellations, group bookings and local context. A faster pace is a reason to review a rate, not proof that a higher rate will sell.
3. Compare what a room package contributes
Contribution per booking = attributable revenue − channel commission − direct inclusion costs − other relevant variable costs. Compare room-only and package scenarios for the same stay and an explicitly chosen tax basis. A higher selling price does not automatically mean a higher contribution.
Illustrative one-night calculation on the same sales channel: a room-only rate of 1,100 MAD with a 15% commission and 120 MAD in room variable cost contributes 1,100 − 165 − 120 = 815 MAD. A 1,390 MAD package with the same commission rate, 120 MAD room cost, 50 MAD breakfast cost and 140 MAD transfer cost contributes 1,390 − 208.50 − 120 − 50 − 140 = 871.50 MAD. The package adds 56.50 MAD per booking under these assumptions. None of the amounts are customer outcomes or Moroccan averages.
To judge total performance, also measure eligible visitors, bookings, cancellations and total contribution across a comparable period. A package can have higher contribution per booking and still deliver less total contribution if fewer guests book it. Record changes in price, availability and channel when reviewing conversion.
4. What EdgeFlow can help a property review
EdgeFlow Pricing for Hospitality organizes selected competitor rates and stay conditions, adds booking pace and occupancy context when the property can provide those data, and supports explainable rate and inclusion decisions. Your team reviews the recommendation and decides what to publish. The available data sources, refresh frequency, integrations and onboarding scope are confirmed with each property. Automatic rate publishing is outside the standard decision workflow and would require a separately scoped integration.
The proposed founding-property plans are Starter at 590 MAD, Growth at 890 MAD and Pro at 1,190 MAD per property per month. The plan page sets out their proposed features, review frequency and terms that must be confirmed before payment. A multiple-property or custom integration plan is quoted separately. No pricing decision or software tool guarantees a revenue increase.
Next step for an independent property
Prepare one stay date, your current room and rate plans, three to five genuinely comparable competitors, your booking snapshot and any known distribution or inclusion costs. This is enough to review a concrete decision with EdgeFlow; the exact data coverage is determined during scoping.
